Division of Sport Studies - [ Sport Studies - Undergraduate Program ]
[ Curriculum & Admissions ]
The Sport Studies undergraduate curriculum consists of a core of classes in such areas as sport sponsorship, sport law, ethics in sport management, funding of sport, globalization & sport, sport sociology, event/facility management, and communication in sport. Students in the Sport Studies program also choose a cognate area in either business or communication based upon their interests and career aspirations. The program has a strong emphasis on helping students learn to apply these skills in the sport industry, as all students will complete an internship prior to graduation. In order to be accepted into the Sport Studies concentration, a student must possess a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all college work completed.
Students having entered the program prior to Fall 2009 have the option of remaining on the old Sport Communication curriculum. Whereas the old Sport Communication curriculum focused only on the communication aspects of the sport industry, the new Sport Studies curriculum offers students the choice of pursuing a cognate area in either communication or business.
