How did you learn about/end up attending MSU?

After finishing my bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, I knew I wanted to attend a power five school to continue my education and graduate work. I wanted my master’s degree to be in an administrative concentration as my BS was health science related. Having that kind of variety would allow me the opportunity to continue work as an athletic trainer but also the flexibility to expand and grow within an athletics department. The opportunity to work at Mississippi State crossed my desk from a former classmate who was also working there, and I quickly jumped at the opportunity and was excited to attend the university.

What are the responsibilities of your current position?

I currently work as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) at the University of Kansas providing daily medical care and coverage to the Women’s Soccer Team. Before coming to Kansas, I was the ATC for the University of Michigan’s women’s rowing team. I also spent a year in Beijing, China working as an ATC for their Olympic cross-country ski team.

What is your favorite part of the position?

My favorite part of my current position is being able to continue being involved in sports. I enjoy being able to help athletes with injuries, medical conditions, mental health, and so forth in order to compete in the sport that they love.

What advice would you give current students looking for internships or jobs in your field?

Be open to opportunity. Take a chance on an internship, fellowship, or job in a location that may make you uncomfortable, but which allows you to develop as a young professional. After I graduated from MSU, I took a job in Beijing, China and while it wasn’t everything I had hoped for, I learned more about myself and my goals from the experience.
